Meet Roll Call's newest signing, High Tropics Posted on April 21st, 2017

We are thrilled to announce that we've signed Australia's High Tropics to Roll Call Records!

Fronted by Josh Stewart (formerly of The Ninjas), the band emerges today with the release of their debut single, '15 Years', as well as an accompanying music video, which premiered this week via Pilerats.

"Kinda like old school The Strokes mixed with current day Violent Soho, it's all fuzzy guitars, driving bass and thumping drums. Elegant in its simplicity, '15 Years' is cracking debut from a band we reckon are gonna do some very good things, very quickly, on the Aussie rock'n'roll scene." — Pilerats

Listen to '15 Years' below, and be sure to give the music video a peep while you're at it.

Night Drive shares Classixx remix of 'Rise and Fall' Posted on April 13th, 2017

Austin's Night Drive have released an "interstellar" new remix of their latest single 'Rise and Fall' from the LA-based duo, Classixx. The re-imagination of the track premiered today via Billboard.

"Rise and Fall is about the experience of a relationship hitting that sudden unavoidable end, and Classixx reinterprets the song through the lens of that same person reminiscing about the incident, many years later while chilling on a beach and sipping a martini. Sure it was sad and heartbreaking, but it's hard to stay sad while in the Cayman Islands." -- Night Drive

Listen to 'Rise and Fall (Classixx Remix)' below, and pick it up tomorrow on all digital platforms.

Night Drive signs to Roll Call Records, premieres new video for 'Rise and Fall' Posted on March 28th, 2017

Roll Call officially welcomes TX's modern synth-pop duo Night Drive to the family, with the release of the band's new music video for 'Rise and Fall'. This is the first single off Night Drive's forthcoming debut album, due out June 16th on Roll Call Records.

The video premiered today on Paper Magazine, where the band shared some insight on the inspiration behind the track:

"Rise and Fall is about unexpected change as two people find themselves going in different directions. A sudden and untimely break up. We wanted the overall sound to be a bit dreamy and distant, which relates to that feeling of your life disintegrating and slipping through your hands like smoke, being unable to hold on to it. But we also wanted an energetic intensity to it, which relates more to the feeling of rushing headlong towards an inevitable tragedy and being unable to avert it, no matter what you do or where you turn."

Stand Up, Speak Out, Be Heard - The Bluegrass Situation shares op-ed from River Whyless Posted on March 7th, 2017

The Bluegrass Situation have shared an insightful op-ed piece from River Whyless on the message they hope to spread with their recently released video for their cover of CCR's 'Fortunate Son'.

You can read the full piece here and watch the video for 'Fortunate Son' below.

"Do we continue down the path of least resistance or do we learn from our mistakes? Will we be able to look past party lines, gender, sexuality, race, and class in order to return our partisanship to its proper context, which is not, after all, winning for winning’s sake. Rather, the context of our partisanship is much larger: It ought to fall somewhere among or within our commitment to generosity and humility.

By capturing footage of that march and putting it to our rendition of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son,” we in River Whyless hope to both emphasize and celebrate the power of active political engagement, to relate CCR’s original moment, back in 1969, to this moment, as a way to emphasize its significance. It’s time for everyone -- on the left and the right -- to stand up and demand from our government the things we all deserve. We don’t all agree on who deserves what and why, but we do agree that we all deserve to be heard."

River Whyless release 'Fortunate Son' video Posted on February 17th, 2017

Asheville's River Whyless have released their cover of Creedance Clearwater Revival's 'Fortunate Son', alongside a powerful 60's protest-style video that features footage from the Women's March in DC.

Here's what the band had to say about the video:

"By using footage from the Women's March on Washington (and our hometown of Asheville) in our rendition of CCR's "Fortunate Son," our goal is to help speak truth to power, not for the sake of perpetuating our country's present divisiveness, but as a way to support and encourage the need for an open, honest, and compassionate conversation about our universal rights and freedoms. We're not asking everyone to agree, but to listen to one another. We promise to do the same.”

You can watch the video for 'Fortunate Son' below. The track is available now via iTunes, Spotify, and all other music retailers. For tickets to see River Whyless on tour this Spring, head to riverwhyless.com.

River Whyless included in No Depression's Six Roots Artists Breaking Out In 2017 Posted on February 13th, 2017

River Whyless have been featured in No Depression's list of Six Roots Artists Breaking Out In 2017! You can read their feature below, or check out the full piece here.

The band will be embarking on their first headlining tour for We All The Light this Spring. To see a list of dates and purchase tickets, head to riverwhyless.com.

----

"River Whyless is a four-piece band formed in Boone, North Carolina, in 2006 (then called Do it to Julia), and includes Ryan O'Keefe (vocals, guitar), Halli Anderson (vocals, violin), Daniel Shearin (bass, vocals), and Alex McWalters (drums). They have two albums under their belt: A Stone, A Leaf, An Unfound Door (2012) and We All the Light (2016). After graduating from Appalachian State University, they moved to Asheville and have played numerous festivals, relentlessly toured the Southeast, worked odd jobs, built a home studio, lost a van, bought a new one, and toured the Southeast again, where they are well-known and highly regarded.

Their music has been called folk, nature-pop, and baroque pop. Utah writer Scott Stroud describes them as “an eclectic fusion of retirees, back-to-the-land hippies, tourists, and natives to the region ... , blending American and international influences into a dreamy, spiritual mixture ... combining bluegrass-inflected harmonies with gorgeously adventurous fiddle-playing and guitar to create a distinctive vibe that will ring familiar bells without sounding quite like any of them.”

But they will not remain 'emerging' for long, as on February 15 the rest of the country will see what the fuss is all about when they kick off an ambitious 10-week tour. It begins in Kentucky, and takes them from New York City to the West Coast with many stops in between. It that were not enough, they’ll also drop by SXSW, and in the summer, Bonnaroo. They also did an NPR Tiny Desk Concert last year. During the next few months they will undoubtedly be playing somewhere near you, so after checking out that Desk Concert, I am sure you’ll want to get out of the house and catch them live."
